LI Clerk Robbed At Apparent Gunpoint, Suspect Flees: Police
The thief pulled out an unknown object resembling a firearm and covered with cloth, police say.
RIVERHEAD, NY — A clerk at a Riverhead 7-Eleven was robbed at what was believed to be gunpoint early Monday, police said.
According to Riverhead Town police, at about 1:43 a.m., a 911 call came in about a robbery at the 7-Eleven located at 162 Old Country Road. A female employee told police that a man entered the store, approached the counter, requested a pack of cigarettes, then demanded that she open the refrigerator, which she refused to do, police said.
He then jumped over the counter and pulled out an unknown object covered with a cloth, which resembled a firearm, police said. A male employee intervened and attempted to subdue the man, police said.

After a short struggle, the man fled the store with a pack of cigarettes and a bottle of Gatorade, police said.
Patrol officers and a K-9 unit searched the area but were unable to find him, police said.

The thief is described as a Black male, about 5-feet, 10 inches tall, wearing a dark jacket, medical mask, gloves, and black-and-white checkered pants, police said.
