LI Man Drove Intoxicated With Girl, 6, In Car On Mother's Day: PD

He was charged with felony DWI under Leandra's Law, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A Riverhead man was arrested after driving while intoxicated on Sunday Mother's Day night with a little girl, 6, in his car, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, the incident took place about 11:59 p.m., when a marked Riverhead Police unit conducted a traffic stop on Nugent Drive near the Flanders traffic circle, in Riverhead.

Upon investigation, the driver of a 2005 Toyota Camry, 30-year-old Jonnathan Vinicio Cardenas-Arias, was found to be intoxicated with a six-year-old female inside his vehicle, police said.

Cardenas-Arias was placed under arrest, transported to the Riverhead Police Department and charged with felony driving while intoxicated under Leandra's Law, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

Cardenas-Arias was processed and held for morning arraignment, police said.
