Man Arrested After Riverhead Robbery: Police

The search is on for a second suspect, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A man was arrested following a Riverhead robbery Wednesday morning, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, the incident took place at about 9:44 a.m. at Lincoln Street and Hallett Avenue. The caller told officers that two males forcibly removed his wallet, containing money and a credit card, and then fled the area, police said.

A Riverhead Police K-9 assisted in the search, with negative results, police said.

At about 1:39 p.m., in the area of Roanoke Avenue and Pulaski Street in Riverhead, officers arrested Richard Street, 49; he has no known address, police said.

Street was charged with alcohol consumption in a public place; seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance; resisting arrest; and second-degree harassment, police said.

After the arrest, Street was identified as one of the male suspects that had committed the robbery earlier in the day, police said. The Riverhead Police Department's detective squad also charged Street with second-degree robbery, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department's detective squad is continuing to investigate the identity of the second male suspect, who was dressed in dark clothing, authorities said.

Street was held for arraignment at Riverhead Justice Court, police said.
