Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Taxi On LI, I Injured: Police
No charges have been filed in the crash, police say.
RIVERHEAD, NY — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a taxi in Riverhead Saturday night, police said.
According to Riverhead Town police, the crash took place at 11:42 p.m. on County Road 58. A 2015 Nissan Sentra owned by Riverhead Town Taxi had been traveling eastbound on Route 58, just east of Northville Turnpike, authorities said.
After passing through the intersection, the vehicle struck a pedestrian who was attempting to cross Route 58 from the north side to the south side, police said.

Jaime Martin Santos, 58, of Riverhead, was treated at the scene by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps and transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.
A rear passenger in the taxi, Tawwana Brown, 49, of Riverhead, was also treated at the scene by Riverhead Ambulance and transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The driver of the taxi, Manuel Efrain Guazhambo-Inga, 43 , of Riverhead, was not injured, police said.
Riverhead Police detectives responded to the scene and an investigation was conducted with the assistance of the New York State Police Department's forensic investigation unit, resulting in a road closure for several hours, officials said.
No charges have been filed in connection with the crash; the investigation is ongoing, police said.
