Riverhead Central School District Receives Best Community for Music Education Designation Third Year in a Row

RIVERHEAD, NEW YORK—For the third year in a row, the Riverhead Central School District has been awarded the Best Communities for Music Education designation from the NAMM Foundation. Throughout the award’s 26-year history, the program has recognized school districts nationwide that stand out for their exceptional commitment and access to high-level music education.

The district received this prestigious designation based on detailed answers regarding funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, support for the music program, instruction time, facilities, and community music programs. Responses were verified by school officials and reviewed by the arts educational research firm WolfBrown. The NAMM Foundation is the charitable arm of the National Association of Music Merchants and works to enhance access to music-making and career pathways in the music industry.

The Riverhead Central School District’s music programming includes an array of engaging courses and extracurriculars that advance students’ musical skills, knowledge, and interests, ranging from bands, orchestras, and choirs to music theory, guitar classes, and the use of music and sound in cinema. Riverhead music students have been recognized by the New York State School Music Association, the New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education, the Suffolk County Music Educators Association, the Hampton Music Educators Association, the Music in the Parks festival, the Virginia Beach Festivals of Music, and other notable institutions and competitions.
