2 Iconic East End Radio Personalities Inducted Into New York State Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame
"Bill Evans and Gary Sapiane are more than broadcasters, they are storytellers, community anchors, and trusted voices."

SAG HARBOR, NY — Suffolk County Legislator Ann Welker visited WLNG Radio in Sag Harbor recently to recognize two of the East End’s most iconic broadcasters, Bill Evans and Gary Sapiane, following their induction into the New York State Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame.
Welker presented each with an official Suffolk County proclamation live on air, celebrating their careers and their service to the community.
"Bill Evans and Gary Sapiane are more than broadcasters, they are storytellers, community anchors, and trusted voices who have shaped daily life on the East End for decades," said Welker. "Honoring them in the WLNG studio, surrounded by the listeners who know and love them, felt especially meaningful."

Evans, she said, is a nationally recognized meteorologist, broadcaster, and author whose career spans more than three decades. His work at WABC-TV, WPLJ Radio 95.5 FM, and 77 WABC Radio’s "Imus in the Morning" earned him 20 Emmy Awards, multiple bestselling books, and a loyal following across the region.
As owner, program director, chief meteorologist, and Morning Show co-host at WLNG, "Evans continues to bring trusted forecasts, warmth, and humor to listeners across the East End. His Hall of Fame induction reflects both his national achievements and his continued dedication to local radio," Welker said.

A Westhampton Beach native, Gary Sapiane has spent more than fifty years on the airwaves of WLNG, "becoming one of the station’s most beloved and enduring voices," Welker added.
He began broadcasting as a high school student at WAPC in Riverhead and joined WLNG in 1970, "where his authenticity and enthusiasm quickly made him a listener favorite," she said.
After the passing of mentor Paul Sidney, Sapiane took on leadership roles as station manager and ultimately president of Main Street Broadcasting, "shepherding WLNG with integrity while preserving its iconic community-centered style. His Hall of Fame induction marks a lifetime of service, leadership, and love for local radio," she said.
"Gary and Bill remind us why local radio continues to matter,” Welker added. “They inform us, bring us together, and help define the character of the East End. Their Hall of Fame honors are a proud moment for our entire community."
