Long Islanders are waking up to snow outside their windows Sunday.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Long Island saw its first snow accumulation of the season Saturday night — and the snow is expected to continue to fall for a significant portion of Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
According to Jay Engle, meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Upton, as of Sunday morning at about 5:30 a.m., about 3 inches of accumulation were reported in Upton.
But, he said, the snowfall wasn't over yet.

"It's still snowing," he said. "We're at the height of the storm from New York City on east."
Snow is expected to continue falling for another 4 hours, or 5 hours, out east. The system, he said, "will start to pull out in the late morning."

In the end, Long Island can be expected to see 3 to 5 inches of snow, with 4 to 6 inches expected on the East End and up to 7 inches of accumulation in some areas, the NWS said.
Temperatures Sunday are going to start at about 30 degrees. "It will get colder in the late afternoon and become bitterly cold tonight, with wind chills hovering near 0 degrees and a gusty northwest wind," Engle said.
A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. Sunday for Long Island, the NWS said.
"Plan on hazardous road conditions with snow-covered roads this morning," the NWS said. "Slow down and use caution while traveling."
Residents should check their local Department of Transportation information services for the latest road conditions, the NWS said.
