1. Service set at Calverton National to observe 80th anniversary of Pearl Harbor attack on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 12:35 p.m. at the Pearl Harbor monument. On the morning of Dec. 7, 1941, Japan attacked the U.S. Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The attack marked the entry of the United States into World War II, a battle fought in two theatres, in the Pacific and in Europe, against the Axis powers of Germany, Italy and Japan. On Dec. 8, in an address to Congress, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared Dec. 7, 1941 “A date which will live in infamy.” (RiverheadLOCAL)
2. Citizens 4 Humanity spread holiday hope & dinners. C4H cofounders Marco and Sheila Barrila first began their mission to “Try and feed as many people as we can” when the Red Cross requested their help to feed East End families displaced by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. From there, they built relationships with the schools that were acting as shelters and knew of others in need. They started out with a list of about 10 families who needed more regular food support, and they’ve grown to be able to provide food for over 250 families this past Thanksgiving. As a donor-based organization, none of this holiday hope is possible without donations, and C4H is working toward $10,000 raised to fund all of their Christmas endeavors. (Dan's Papers)
3. Riverhead schools: Computer system damaged. The Riverhead school district's computer system was damaged by a possible "cyber incident" that has crippled its email and internet services, district officials said Friday. "Preliminary reports indicate it might stem from a cyber incident," the district said in a written statement. (Newsday)
