- Riverhead passed over in federal DOT grant competition, had sought $24M for infrastructure projects. The DOT received a 10-to-1 ratio of requests to available dollars, DOT Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in the release. The grants are highly competitive and are awarded to projects that will have “a significant local or regional impact,” according to the release. This is the second time the town has applied for this grant. Community Development Director Dawn Thomas said the town is disappointed it didn’t receive the reward, but remains optimistic about future opportunities. (RiverheadLOCAL)
- Holiday Shopping Destination: Riverhead embraces diversity, elegance. Riverhead’s downtown has long been anchored by the Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center, making it the only Main Street where you can take a break from shopping to watch seals frolic in an 800-gallon pool outside. You don’t have to pay admission to get into the aquarium’s City Treasures Gift Shop (enter behind the fountain, 431 E. Main St. to browse authentic shark-tooth souvenirs, T-shirts, plush toys and jewelry, and more. Or buy a gift certificate that can be used toward admission, special events, shopping and membership.
