Here are the top stories today in Riverhead:
- This fall, the Harbes Family Farm had a record-breaking apple season so the family donated 300,000 pounds of apples to regional food banks. The family usually works with Island Harvest Food Bank, but the organization was unable to process such a large quantity. The family was put in touch with Feeding New York State, a larger regional food bank. A portion of the crop went to Island Harvest and Long Island Cares on Long Island, as well as City Harvest, which distributes to the five boroughs in New York City. (Suffolk Times)
- Riverhead area shelters have just what you are looking for in a pet. There are thousands of potential pets without a home. This is a great way to add a fluffy ball of four-legged love and affection to your family. Consider starting at a local rescue agency like The North Fork Animal Welfare League, where Misty the dog is waiting patiently. (Riverhead Patch)
- Who’s hiring? Riverhead businesses are hiring from sales to truck drivers. Looking for full-time, part-time or remote work? Each week at Patch, we compile a list of recently posted jobs in the Riverhead region, as powered by ZipRecruiter, to help in your job hunt. - The Riverhead Lions Club Santa Parade and the town’s annual holiday bonfire took place on the riverfront Sunday afternoon, despite two weather-related postponements. Santa and Mrs. Claus road in style into town, waving to spectators from the back of a fire department pickup truck. (RiverheadLOCAL)
