  1. News 12, Long Island's news channel, featured a video on the Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton. The Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton dates back over 50 years to its origin. Its newest endeavor, an upgrade this spring that includes a new facility to house more animals and will allow the nonprofit to continue offering low-cost spading and neutering to the public.   2. Blue is for a national public awareness effort to educate the public to recognize the signs of victims of human trafficking. As such, the center façade of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office Correctional Facility in Riverhead will be lit up in blue light throughout the month of January. In 2018, Sheriff Toulon started The Sheriff’s Anti-Trafficking Initiative Unit — the first of its kind in the country operating from inside a correctional facility. "The principal objective is to ensure that all victims of human trafficking who pass through the Suffolk County Correctional Facility are identified and have access to the services they need to recover."
