- Nearly 15 percent of private drinking wells tested near the former Grumman facility in Calverton had traces of per-fluorinated compounds — which have been linked to reproductive, endocrine and other health impacts, according to the Suffolk County Health Department in 2020. Adrienne Esposito, executive director of the Farmingdale-based Citizens Campaign for the Environment, is asking for help from elected officials to have the U.S. Navy pay about $3 million to address water quality issues affecting dozens of homes near the former Grumman naval weapons plant. - Do you know this man? Police release a video still of a man suspected of stealing tools, valued at approximately $630, from the Home Depot's Riverhead store, located at 1550 Old Country Road, on Feb. 2 at approximately 3:20 p.m., police said. The suspect fled in a red Dodge pickup truck. If you have any information, police ask that you submit an anonymous tip by calling 1-800-220-TIPS. (Dan's Papers)
- On Sunday, April 24, at about 11 a.m. in Riverhead, police responded to Doctors Path. Police said two victims told officers they were robbed of cash at gunpoint. Authorities said the victims were at the location to buy "a large quantity of marijuana." Police identified Zante Davender, of Riverhead, as the suspect in the robbery, and arrested him at about 3:20 p.m., authorities said. (Riverhead Patch)
