Here are the top stories in Riverhead today:

  1. Riverhead Anti-Bias Task Force is hosting the "MLK: Through Many Voices," event on Saturday at 10 a.m. The program will feature speeches and writings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., "brought to life" by local men inspired to follow in his footsteps, the ABTF said. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day event in Riverhead can be in person or online through Zoom. The event is free to the public and will be held at the Riverhead Library. Pre-registration is required for either. Register to attend in person here or by calling 631-727-3228. Register for Zoom here; the link for Zoom will be sent following sign up. (Riverhead Patch)
  2. Leaf pickup delayed in Riverhead. Many residents pile leaves on the road despite the town's requirement that residents place loose leaves on the curbside for pickup. So, the plows plowed the piled-up leaves along with the snow. Newly installed Highway Superintendent Mike Zaleski asks that residents be patient. “We’ll be battling this all month,” he said. 3. Revving up at Enterprise Park in Calverton! Drag racing could be back this year. Riverhead Town Supervisor Yvette Aguiar said there were two separate proposals before the town board and will be discussed at public hearings on Feb. 8. Peter Scalzo, who presented his "Race Track, Not Street," series last year, said there would be the Summer Classic, on Aug. 20, 21, 27, and 28, and Sept. 3, 4, 10 and 11. Rain dates would be held on Sept. 17 and 18. The Fall Classic will take place on Sept. 24 and 25, Oct. 1, 2, 8, 9, 15 and 16, with rain dates of Oct. 23 and 24.
Andre Baxter is also proposing the "Scrambul: Cold Fusion" event on March 5 and 6.
