Here are the top stories today in Riverhead:

  1. The Peconic Jitney wants to start service again since its trial run, a decade ago. The village boards whose jurisdiction includes the two landing sites, Long Wharf in Sag Harbor and Mitchell Park Marina in Greenport, have yet to schedule a vote on the contract to finalize the route. Sag Harbor village trustees will reportedly hold a public hearing on the ferry May 10, Greenport is still in question. (Dan's Papers)
  2. The 5K Cherry Blossom Petal Run in the Village of Greenport, Spring 2022 will kick-off Saturday, April 30, at 9 a.m. — rain or shine. Register in advance for $30 includes T-shirt ($35 day of/does not include free T-shirt). (Northforker)
  3. According to an Anti-Defamation League report that came out Tuesday, antisemitic incidents of assault, harassment and vandalism, including 618 in New York, reached an all-time high in 2021. The ADL reported, 2,717 attacks on Jewish people in 2021, a 34 percent year-over-year increase, according to the ADL, which began tracking antisemitic incidents in 1979. (Patch)
  4. Bayron Fajardo-Gonzalez, 34, was sentenced to 20 years to life Wednesday for murdering his girlfriend, Tania Fox, 45, in front of her 9-year-old daughter, in August 2020, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said. (Patch)
