Here are the top stories today in Riverhead:
- Tuesday night, the Riverhead Board of Education adopted a $169.7 million proposed operating budget for the 2022-2023 school year. The budget is a 6.5 percent spending increase over the current year's adopted budget and requires a 1 percent district levy tax. Voters head to polls May 17. (Subscription: Riverhead News Review)
- Amendments to the Special Events Law would reduce review and approval time as well as reduce information required by event promoters' applications for town events. Do you think that is a good idea? Let your voice be heard at the next town meeting. (RiverheadLOCAL)
- Riverhead School District honored the late Donald Henderson, school security, by retiring his number, 101. Henderson died March 20 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. (Riverhead News Review)
- Riverhead High School has a new assistant principal, William Galati. Galati was hired by the school district Thursday night as executive director of secondary education, grants and student outcomes, a new administrative position. (Riverhead News Review)
- Could the Calverton Enterprise Park be the location of a waste-to-energy facility? That's what a developer is hoping. Unfortunately, the zoning code prohibits the land for that type of use. The developer has requested that the ruling be overturned. (RiverheadLOCAL)
