Riverhead Motorcyclist Killed In LIE Crash: Police

He died in the crash on the Long Island Expressway, near Manorville, Monday night, police say.

MANORVILLE, NY — A motorcyclist was killed in a Manorville crash Monday evening, police said.

According to Suffolk County police, the crash took place on the Long Island Expressway, east of Exit 68, at 5:46 p.m.

William Sarubbi, 37, of Riverhead, was driving a 2014 Suzuki motorcycle and heading east on the LIE when he collided with the back of a 2024 Ford F250 pickup truck being driven by a man from Coram, 22; he was ejected from the motorcycle, police said.

A 55-year-old Holtsville man, heading east in a 2022 Mitsubishi, swerved to avoid striking Sarubbi in the roadway and hit the motorcycle, police said.

Sarubbi was transported via ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Neither of the other two drivers were injured in the crash; no charges were filed, police said.

All three vehicles were impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact Seventh Squad detectives at 631-852-8752.
