1. One Minute On The North Fork: Golden Hour At Herricks Lane Farm. Just off Herricks Lane in Jamesport is a hidden, certified organic oasis. The small farm specializes in medicinal and culinary herbs and veggies and is also home to horses and chickens, which produce eggs for sale at their self-serve shed. (Northforker)
2. Riverhead farmers market pulls in a crowd on successful opening day. The East End Food Market opened its doors in Riverhead on Saturday and over a thousand people walked in; not all at once, of course! For four hours there was a steady stream of customers in and out of the building at the market’s new location on Main Road and Cross River Drive. (RiverheadLOCAL)
3. Deep Hole Creek preservation is near thanks to major community fundraising effort. After an outpouring of community support, Peconic Land Trust has made plans to close on the purchase of 15 acres of waterfront property in Mattituck in coming weeks. The land trust intends to become “interim owner” of the property, with hopes to sell the land to a conservation buyer who will potentially cultivate the land, according to its website. The purchase will be partially funded by $625,000 in donations raised by community members, after learning at a series of public hearings over the winter that the property was poised to become a seven-lot subdivision.(Suffolk Times)
