Woman Found Intoxicated With 2 Girls, 6 & 8, In Vehicle: Police
The Southold woman was arrested and charged with violating Leandra's Law after the car was found disabled in Riverhead, police say.
RIVERHEAD, NY — A Southold woman was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after she was found with two girls, 6 and 8, in a disabled vehicle in Riverhead Saturday night, police said.
According to Riverhead Town police, at 10:44 p.m., officers responded to Cross River Drive in the area of Hubbard Avenue after a report of a disabled vehicle. Monique J. Smith, 29, was found to be intoxicated with the two children in the 2021 Kia four-door sedan, police said.
Smith was arrested and charged with DWI in violation of Leandra's Law, a felony; and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, police said. She was taken to Riverhead police headquarters, where she was processed and held for morning arraignment, police said.
