Hastings School Budget Includes Tax Rate Decrease

Although the 2016-17 school budget proposes an increase, it may result in a tax rate decrease.

Hastings Union Free School District residents can vote on the 2016-17 proposed budget and the election of new school board members on May 17.

The school district has proposed the following changes to the budget:

Proposed budget: $46,882,130

Budget to budget increase: 0.84 percent

Proposed tax rate decrease: .21 percent

Proposed tax levy increase: 1.06 percent

The budget includes funding for:

  • The renovation of the tennis courts at Reynolds Field
  • Inflationary increase on the roof capital projects at the high school/middle school
  • District-wide interior improvements such as the refurbishment of bathrooms and paving work.

Candidates in the contested school board election are Caryn Campbell, Lisa Eggert Litvin, Wendy Naidich and Doug Sundheim.
