Illegal July 4 Fireworks Reports in Hastings

Village police received several phones calls on the holiday reporting fireworks being set off throughout the village.

Reports of fireworks being set off around Hastings started before nightfall on July 4, according to the police department.

Police responded to a Clarence Avenue address after an 8:25 p.m. call on Thursday, where they spoke with a homeowner who was setting off bottle rockets. The homeowner ceased the activity.

Two more calls came in right after 9:30 p.m. reporting fireworks in the village, but police weren't able to verify the reports.

At 11 p.m., a Summit Drive resident reported "intoxicated youths" were shooting fireworks in the direction of his home. Responding officers said one neighbor had shot fireworks toward the home and was asked to stop.

Finally, calls reporting fireworks at Reynolds fields went in to police at 11:05 p.m. and 1:16 a.m. the following morning.
