Rivertowns Square Says Review Was Stopped to Resolve 'Internal Issues'

Once the Village of Dobbs Ferry deems the final environmental impact statement (FEIS) as complete, it will be released for public comment.

After having suspended the state environmental quality review act (SEQRA) process for several weeks, the developers of the proposed are talking.

"The decision to suspend work on the environmental studies was to provide time to resolve internal issues," said Geoff Thompson, a spokesperson for the project. "The Final Environmental Review is the appropriate time to make any adjustments and changes. Any specific changes will be described in the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS.)"

Dobbs Ferry that the developers for the $150 million mixed use residential and retail project—a joint venture between the property owners, Dobbs Ferry Capital Partners, and Saber Real Estate Advisors of Armonk—requested that the SEQRA process be suspended, and .

“We are pleased that work has resumed on the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the project," said Corey Rabin, managing partner of Dobbs Ferry Capital partners LLC, owner of the property and a partner in Saber Chauncey. "We will be incorporating several modifications and building use changes, which will improve the green space and reduce the impact of traffic on local streets. Our goal is to make Rivertowns Square a top quality, arts-based destination that will be a meaningful amenity to the village.”

The proposal for the 17.65-acre plot off Lawrence Street and the Saw Mill River Parkway has been met with some resistance from locals who say the project is inappropriate for the location and fear it would exacerbate the already congested traffic situation in the area.

The developers seek to transform the abandoned former AKZO Nobel office complex into a supermarket, an inn, a four-story 223-unit luxury rental apartment building and 45,000 square feet of retail space, including restaurants and a bank.

“We recognize the importance of our plan to the future of the village," said Rabin. "We are committed to taking the steps necessary to assure that Rivertowns Square will be fully integrated within the fabric of the community and to assuring that there will be a genuine synergy with public transportation and the downtown village shops and restaurants. We are confidant that Rivertowns Square can and will be a project that Dobbs Ferry will be proud to call its own.”

Once the Village of Dobbs Ferry, who is serving as Lead Agency for the project, deems the final environmental impact statement (FEIS) as complete, the document will be released for public comment.
