SPCA: Dog Kept in Van on Verge of Death
Briarcliff Manor's SPCA said a New Rochelle man has been charged with animal cruelty.

A New Rochelle man faces an animal cruelty charge after the SPCA of Westchester's Humane Law Enforcement (HLE) Division found a pit bull living in a work van.
According to a statement from the Briarcliff Manor organization, Kaywhan Hardee of 82 Rhoda Quash Road in New Rochelle was arrested May 29 when a New Rochelle police officer found the dog while on patrol.
"Bobo, a 3-year-old, male, pit bull, was discovered by Police Officer D’Erasmo of the New Rochelle Police while on patrol," the SPCA said. "Authorities removed the dog from the van for immediate veterinary treatment at the New Rochelle Humane Society."
Bobo was found to be in "very poor physical condition," according to the veterinarian who treated him.
"The veterinarian who treated Bobo described his physical health as a '1' on a scale of 1 to 9 and stated that 'the animal would surely have died had he not been rescued when he was,'" according to the statement. "It was estimated that the dog was living in the van for three months."
Bobo is now residing at the New Rochelle Humane Society and has reportedly gained six pounds in six days.
