Swatting Incident Found To Be A Hoax In Hudson Valley: Police

Police said a crisis hotline received a call from a man who said he shot his mother and was thinking about hurting himself.

DOBBS FERRY, NY — A phone call to a crisis hotline Wednesday from a man claiming to have shot his mother in Dobbs Ferry was found to be a hoax.

The Village of Dobbs Ferry Police Department said the incident began just before 1 p.m. Wednesday when the department received a call from a local mobile crisis team.

According to the crisis team, the man not only said he had shot his mother but also claimed he was thinking about hurting himself.

Police were dispatched to an apartment complex on Beacon Hill Drive in Dobbs Ferry but were unable to gain entry to the residence to certify the incident.

Beacon Hill Drive was temporarily closed to traffic, and mutual aid was requested from surrounding jurisdictions.

Shortly afterward, Dobbs Ferry police were able to confirm with family members that the incident was a hoax.

Police said they have identified a suspect who is in a secure facility.

There is no danger to the community, police said, and the streets were reopened.
