Work To Begin on Ashford Ave Bridge Wednesday
One lane will be closed in each direction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. until Oct. 12
Emergency repairs to the Ashford Avenue Bridge on the Dobbs Ferry/Ardsley border will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 3 and last until Friday, Oct. 12.
The $1.5 million work to stabilize the county-owned bridge will close down one lane in each direction on Ashford Avenue between Southfield Avenue and Saw Mill River Road (Route 9A) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Though the bridge is slated for a $20 million long-term rehabilitation, the immediate repairs are being made in response to an incident on June 22 when concrete from the sides of the bridge fell onto the New York State Thruway, which runs underneath the bridge, damaging several cars.

County Legislator Mary Jane Shimsky has called the structure “the worst county-owned bridge in Westchester—and not by just a little.”
Work that will begin this week includes stabilization of existing concrete piers and bridge structures.

The stabilization work to the bridge is being financed with a combination of federal, state and county funds.
“While the long-term repair process has already begun, we are now addressing the immediate needs of the bridge,” said Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino said.
