With UR and UR Medicine ranking as upstate’s largest private employer, their health care, research, and capital projects pump hundreds of millions into the local economy and community benefits.

2. Rochester students spread holiday cheer to seniors (spectrumlocalnews.com) — Rochester middle schoolers are brightening the holidays for seniors at Rochester Presbyterian Home with songs, games, and conversation. Students from several city schools partner with Action for a Better Community to ease loneliness for older adults, while gaining perspective from residents’ stories and building stronger intergenerational connections right here in Rochester.
   

3. $1M state grant awarded for Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre renovations (spectrumlocalnews.com) — A $1 million state grant is headed to Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre to upgrade its audio, visual, and lighting systems, marking the venue’s first major capital project in about 16 years. Local leaders say the improvements will help keep Rochester’s downtown arts hub competitive, supporting everything from RPO concerts to the Rochester International Jazz Festival for decades to come.
   

4. Local event held for nationwide day to remember the homeless (13wham.com) — Rochester neighbors gathered Sunday at Immanuel Baptist Church for a community meal and memorial honoring people who died while homeless this year, with a special tribute to longtime advocate Sister Grace Miller. Speakers reflected on her impact serving Rochester’s unhoused residents as part of the National Union of the Homeless Winter Offensive, a nationwide day of remembrance.
   

5. 'We are honored to step in': Bristol Mountain to host U.S. selections freestyle aerials (rochesterfirst.com) — Rochester-area ski fans can catch elite freestyle aerialists for free Monday night as Bristol Mountain steps in to host the U.S. Selections Freestyle Aerials after warm weather sidelined Park City. Local athletes say they’re excited to compete close to home, with jumps built in just days and competition starting at 6 p.m. near the Challenger Terrain Park.
