100-Year-Old Nassau Holocaust Survivor Celebrated

Pina Frassineti Wax managed to survive the Holocaust by hiding in a convent in Italy.

BALDWIN, NY — A 100-year-old Holocaust survivor from Baldwin was honored this week.

Recognition for Pina Frassineti Wax comes ahead of International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Jan. 27.

"Pina's story is a remarkable one; not only because of her resolve in surviving the Holocaust, but for the amazing life she led in the decades to follow," said Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin.

Clavin was joined by Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman and Senator Chuck Schumer to celebrate her life as "100 Years of Love, Joy and Standing Against Hate!"

After surviving the Holocaust by hiding in a convent in Italy, Frassineti Wax came to America, established roots, and eventually settled in Baldwin where she raised her family. Living a life dedicated to teaching, learning and spreading love, Pina’s quick wit and overall energy allowed her to flourish and become a productive and impactful member of her community.

Joined in the celebration of her life by her daughters and grandson, Pina was presented with an American flag that was flown at the United States Capitol in her honor.
