$5M in Unclaimed Funds for RVC Residents

Rockville Centre residents are named in almost 9,000 unclaimed fund accounts maintained by the state comptroller office, a state official told the Village Board on Feb. 8.

Michael Caplice, the Long Island regional representative of the State Comptroller’s office, said there were more than $5.1 million in accounts owed to Rockville Centre residents. He will visit the on North Oceanside Road Feb. 24 from 12 to 2 p.m. to help residents determine if they are owed money.  

“I urge our residents to make use of this state service,” Mayor Mary Bossart said.

Banks, insurance companies, utilities, investment companies and many other businesses are required to surrender any money in inactive accounts to the State.  The Office of the State Comptroller serves as custodian of the money until ownership can be proved and then it is returned without charge. 

Anyone may check for unclaimed funds on-line at www.osc.state.ny.us/ouf/index.htm or by calling 1-800-221-9311. The service is free.
