Crime Watch: Illegal Peddling and Menacing Arrests

Recent police activity as reported by the RVC PD.

The following information was supplied by the RVC Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Arrests:

On July 9 at 8:06 p.m., Maria F. DeRafael, 64, of Sunnyside, NY, was arrested and charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration and peddling without a license after she was observed by police officers selling glow necklaces and other toys near South Park Avenue during the RVC Anniversary Fireworks Celebration.

On July 9 at 11:02 p.m., Gregory P. Schroeder, 40, of Freeport, was arrested and charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, attempted petit larceny, possession of burglars tools and seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance after he was observed by Village Administrator Frank Quigley attempting to break into a Ford van parked in MPF No. 23 near Clinton Avenue. Upon being confronted by the Village Administrator, the defendant fled on foot and was apprehended a short time later in Hickey Field near Morris Avenue/Sunrise Highway by PO Willett.
