Cyclones Outlast Great Neck North, 27-20

Running back Eric Willie has career-best 244 yards and two touchdowns.

The South Side Football Cyclones and head coach Phil Onesto got their first win of the season on Saturday, defeating Great Neck North 27-20 in one of the best offensive games the team's had in the past two seasons.

Running back Eric Willie pounded Great Neck North's defense for 244 rushing yards and two touchdowns. That gives the junior running back nearly 500 rushing yards and three touchdowns in the first three games of the season.

"He's not looking to go out of bounds," head coach Phil Onesto said of Willie's bulldozing run attack. "He's out there doing the hitting."

Junior quarterback Cole Considine also had a great game, finishing 7-for-10 for 112 yards and two touchdowns. His two scoring passes were reeled in by senior Zach Scaduto, who finished with six receptions for 106 yards and two touchdown grabs.

"The offense looked great," Onesto said. "I think we started heading in the right direction after the Hewlett game. We're happy to get the win."

South Side's offense scored a touchdown in each quarter of the game. The defense also played a large role in the win, stopping Great Neck North twice on crucial fourth-down plays.

Up 14-6 with less than a minute less at South Side's 9-yard line, the Cyclones stuffed the Blazers on four downs to keep their lead heading into half. Up 27-20 with two minutes left in the game and Great Neck North driving for the game-tying score, the Cyclones made another fourth-down stop that ended the Blazers comeback and sealed the South Side win.

South Side will play Division at home at 3 p.m.
