Freeport Schools Superintendent Earns Doctorate In Education

FREEPORT, NY — Freeport's Superintendent of Schools Fia Davis has completed her doctorate in education.
Dr. Davis earned her PhD from Fordham University last month when she presented her final thesis to the dissertation committee.
"This achievement is not just mine—it’s a testament to my grandmother’s unwavering belief in the transformative power of education," Davis said.

She credits her grandmother, who taught her to read at age 5.
Davis represents the 4.8 percent of doctorate recipients in the U.S. who are black women, according to 2023 statistics from the National Science Foundation.

"I hope that this achievement serves as a beacon of possibility to my students that
everything is possible," she added. “Reminding them that race or gender is never a barrier;
they are often assets that make us great."
