"She's spent her whole life taking care of others," Wendy Rossberg's son wrote. "Now it's our turn to take care of her."

OCEANSIDE, NY — A beloved teacher from Oceanside is battling a rare form of cancer.

Wendy Rossberg, a 2018 finalist for the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching, was diagnosed in January with a rare and aggressive form of tongue cancer.

Her son Dave has launched a GoFundMe to defray some of the out-of-pocket medical expenses.

Since the new year, Rossberg has undergone 13-hour surgery, weeks of radiation and multiple ER visits.

The page would also provide funds for travel and lodging to receive treatments, "daily costs while our parents have been unable to work and anything that helps ease mom's burden," Rossberg wrote on GoFundMe.
