Steele, a native of Oceanside, is a member of the National Honor Society. She hasn't decided on a college yet, with her top three college choices being Molloy, St. John's and Adelphi. But Steele thinks having the event on her resume can only be a positive.
"It can definitely help the admissions process," she said. "It will make me stand out."

Beyond a boost for academics, Steele wants a career in the medical field, so she's excited about "The Congress" where she'll learn from professors.
Her nomination for the special program was signed by Dr. Mario Capecchi, winner of the Nobel Prize in Medicine. Steele will represent Kellenberg based on her classroom achievements, leadership potential and a determination to serve humanity in the field of medicine.
"I'm very interested in biology and human anatomy," she said.
The conference will feature students from the country listening to Nobel Laureates and National Medal of Science recipients delve into the latest medical research and technology.
"It's a great opportunity to see what other fields there are, and [get] advice from experts," Steele said.
