HEMPSTEAD, NY — While a major snow event is not expected for Long Island, Tuesday night's storm will be a nuisance for drivers.

"This is going to be a tricky storm," said Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin.

Forecasters are calling for 1-3 inches of snow for the area, "but the big concern is temperature," Clavin told Patch.

During a stretch overnight, it could be above freezing, transitioning to rain, before quickly dipping below 30 degrees, Clavin said.

"We're telling people [Wednesday] morning it could be a little icy out there," he said. "Take a little longer with your commute."

Clavin said crews will sand, salt and plow roads, as necessary, "but Mother Nature has her own way of doing things."

Light snow is also possible Thursday and another potential storm is brewing for the weekend.

"It's a little early to tell, but we are monitoring that. It either could just be a rain event or a significant snow event," Clavin said.
