Molloy Athletes Plunge for a Cause
Molloy volleyball teammates join hundreds in North Hempstead Polar Plunge to raise money for Special Olympics.
North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington was filled with Long Islanders on Saturday morning who were eager to plunge into cold water; between 500 and 700 people are estimated to have taken part in the seventh annual Polar Plunge to raise money for the Special Olympics, according to a Hempstead spokesman.
One of the hundreds to take the dip was Elizabeth Moulder, an athlete on the volleyball team. Moulder was part of a contingent from Molloy that was plunging as part of their community service for school. Moulder said the trick is to go in and out quickly.
Moulder, a sophomore on the volleyball team, was joined in the plunge by teammates Kayla Evanosky, of Levittown, and Catherine Russini of Westbury. Prior to competing at Molloy in Rockville Centre, Moulder was a standout volleyball player at Kellenberg Memorial in Uniondale.
