National Grid Work Continues in RVC
Officials say work is scheduled for completion by Dec. 10.

If you've driven down Hempstead Avenue, in particular within the last week, you may have noticed a slew of ongoing construction by National Grid. Officials say the work is strictly maintenance related, and it is not being done because of leaky gas mains.
Elizabeth Margulies, lead media relations representative for National Grid, said that the work on Milford Place — a one-way street near South Side Middle School that empties onto Hempstead Avenue — is one portion of a larger maintenance plan for the village by the utility company. She said that the work started on Nov. 12 and is scheduled to be completed by Dec. 10.
"We are working on upgrading gas mains in Rockville Centre," Margulies said. "That will be followed by street paving work, but there is no end date for that."

She added that the upgrades include replacing gas mains, and that it is part of a continuous, Long Island-wide project. Margulies said she did not know the age of the older mains, but after they are replaced, the road repaving will commence.
"Throughout the island, we are constantly checking and upgrading," she said. "It's part of our routine maintenance of the system."
