Pedestrian Dies After being Struck By Cargo Truck In Nassau: PD

He died Friday morning, police say.

BALDWIN, NY — A 44-year-old male pedestrian died in a Baldwin crash Friday, police said.

According to Nassau County police, the homicide squad is investigating the fatal crash, which took place at 6:20 a.m. on Coes Neck Road in the vicinity of Notre Dame Court.

A 59-year-old man driving a 2019 cargo truck north on Coes Road swerved to avoid a car that was backing up onto the roadway and struck the man, who was walking on the shoulder of the roadway, police said.

The man suffered severe head trauma and was unconscious; a Nassau County police medic responded and pronounced the victim deceased, police said.

There were no other injuries reported, police said.

The cargo truck and driver remained at the scene; no charges were filed, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
