Ex-NYPD Detective Sentenced After Fiery DWI Crash That Injured 2: DA
He slammed into a vehicle, seriously injuring 2 women in 2023, prosecutors say.
MINEOLA, NY — A former NYPD detective was sentenced to prison after driving while intoxicated on the Meadowbrook Parkway in August, 2023, crashing into a vehicle and seriously injuring two women, prosecutors said.
George Moore, 40, pleaded guilty in November to charges of aggravated vehicular assault, second-degree assault, third-degree assault and aggravated driving while intoxicated, prosecutors said.
Moore was sentenced on Monday to three to six years in prison, Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said.

On August 4, 2023, Moore was driving with a female passenger in a 2014 Mercedes northbound on the Meadowbrook Parkway, while on his way to Queens, where he worked as a detective, Donnelly said.
He was drunk and driving aggressively when he crashed into a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the center lane of the parkway, she said.

The force of the impact caused Moore’s car to crash into the center divider of the Meadowbrook and then head-on into a tree on the right shoulder before coming to a rest, the DA said. As a result of the collision, Moore’s vehicle overturned and became engulfed in flames, Donnelly said.
The passenger in Moore’s car suffered serious injuries, including a fracture to her left wrist, a fracture to her left foot and a spinal fracture, prosecutors said.
The driver of the Grand Cherokee suffered injuries to her lower back, left shoulder and right knee, the DA said.
Moore suffered a broken pelvis, a broken arm, and a broken leg, Donnelly said.
An investigation revealed that Moore had consumed alcohol at several bars in the Rockville Centre area before the crash, the DA's office said.
Patch attempted to get a comment from Moore's attorney Peter Brill.
"Today’s sentence holds this defendant accountable for his reckless behavior and reinforces the principle that no one is above the law, especially those who are entrusted with upholding it," Donnelly said. “As a member of law enforcement, George Moore had a sworn duty to protect and serve the public, yet he did the opposite. He chose to violate that trust by driving while intoxicated and put lives at risk. His actions were not only a betrayal of his oath, but also a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of impaired driving."
