PSEG LI Prepares For Heat, Strong Thunderstorms And Gusty Wind

Wednesday's isolated storms could have winds over 45 MPH.

UNIONDALE, NY — With the potential for strong thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon, PSEG Long Island is alerting customers that it is prepared to handle what Mother Nature throws our way.

The electric company said Wednesday morning that it has sufficient capacity to meet projected peak demand.

"PSEG Long Island is closely monitoring both the heat and the thunderstorms and we are prepared for potential impacts on the system," said Michael Sullivan, vice president of Electric Operations at PSEG Long Island.

Part of the preparation includes system and logistic checks. A full complement of personnel will be ready to mobilize for extreme weather, Sullivan added.

The isolated storms may be strong with peak wind gusts of up to 55 mph — enough to potentially topple trees, bring down branches on wires and cause outages.
