PSEG Prepares For Windstorm As Gusts Could Top 60 MPH

A high wind warning is in effect from 11 p.m. until 10 a.m. on Friday.

UNIONDALE, NY — A rainy night is ahead of Long Island, but the bigger problem will likely be wind.

A high wind warning is in place for Nassau and Suffolk counties from 11 p.m. until 10 a.m. on Friday.

With gusts possible of at least 60 miles per hour, branches could be a casualty of the storm taking power lines with them.

PSEG Long Island is preparing for any wild weather.

"As we watch the forecast, we have performed system and logistic checks, and have additional personnel ready to respond safely and as quickly as possible," Michael Sullivan, vice president of Transmission & Distribution at PSEG Long Island, said in a statement.

The National Weather Service encourages people to stay on lower levels of their homes during a windstorm and use caution if they must drive.
