Rep. Gillen Sworn In As New Congressional Term Gets Underway
"I've always been guided by the principles of compromise and bipartisanship, and I look forward to working with anyone," Gillen said.
WASHINGTON, NY — The House of Representatives opened the 119th Congress with the swearing-in ceremony.
Democrat Laura Gillen (NY-04) is officially a congresswoman after taking the oath.
"As we look ahead to this Congress, I am ready to get to work on the bipartisan priorities that Long Islanders care most about: lowering costs, giving hardworking Long Islanders a middle-class tax break by restoring the full SALT deduction, ensuring clean drinking water, and taking much-needed action to secure our border," Gillen said in a statement.

The new Congress started the day with a razor-thin vote to keep Mike Johnson as Speaker of the House.
"I've always been guided by the principles of compromise and bipartisanship, and I look forward to working with anyone — Democrat or Republican — who is committed to working productively to deliver on the pressing issues that we face," Gillen added.
