Rockville Centre Police Department Gets 1st-In-State Sensory Training
Training and promoting inclusivity is supported by KultureCity, a leading nonprofit organization.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — The Rockville Centre Police Department made history on Tuesday as the first department in the state to become certified sensory-inclusive.
KultureCity, a leading nonprofit organization, is dedicated to promoting inclusivity and accessibility for people with sensory needs.
Through its program, KultureCity helps train others to address the one in four individuals diagnosed with an invisible disability, such as autism, PTSD, dementia and ADHD.

"This vital training enhances the day-to-day interactions with individuals who have sensory needs or invisible disabilities," Mayor Francis Murray said. "Thanks to the partnership with KultureCity, our officers are equipped with the tools to respond with compassion and the necessary skills to make a positive impact."
Lifelong Rockville Centre resident, Sean Culkin, was diagnosed with autism as a child. Now 30, Culkin serves as an ambassador and board member with KultureCity.

The nonprofit organization, dedicated to raising money for families affected by autism, provided funding for the program.
"This training and certification received not only renews our commitment to those we serve but allows our officers to improve the interactions we have with our most vulnerable residents and visitors," RVCPD Commissioner Randy Dodd said.
