Second Bank Robbed in Three Days; NCPD Release Surveillance Photos

Astoria Federal Savings Bank robbed on Saturday morning; similar M.O. used in Friday's heist.

Astoria Federal Savings Bank was robbed on Saturday morning, and the suspect, who is still at large, fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. It is the second bank robbery in the past three days in the village, the first being Community National Bank last Friday morning.

According to Nassau County Robbery Squad detectives, a black woman in her early to late 30s entered the bank at 339 Merrick Rd. around 9:48 a.m. She handed a teller a note demanding money. The teller complied, and the suspect fled  on foot through the bank's front door with an undisclosed amount of cash in an unknown direction. There were eight employees and eight customers in the bank at the time, but no injuries were reported.

Police describe the woman as 5'7'', 180 pounds with a dark complexion and thick build. She had dark brown, shoulder-length curly hair with blonde highlights, and was wearing large dark sunglasses, a gray zippered up hooded sweatshirt, black leggings and black sneakers.
