As the new week approaches, let's look at some of the stories featured last week on Rockville Centre Patch.
After two RVC establishments were robbed at gunpoint over the past month — McDonald's and Waldbaum's — two banks on Merrick Road were robbed. Community National Bank and Astoria Federal each had an undisclosed amount of money taken, but no one was injured during the heists. With schools starting on Sept. 7, Patch told you where there's some local deals on school supplies, and "Do it Yourself" design columnist Melissa O'Connor detailed how to turn a birdcage into a piece of art in your home.
RVC resident Frank Scafuri dazzled a crowd of 60 at the Sandel Senior Center with his singing of Broadway love songs and pop tunes, and Leggz Dance Studio opened the doors to its new studio at 486 Sunrise Highway. Taco Bell officials want to renovate the restaurant on Sunrise Highway, but may need a variance to do so. Patch previewed South Side High School's boys' soccer team, as well as posted video of tryouts for both girls' and boys' squads.

In political news, a debate at the Hewlett-Woodmere library among GOP hopefuls for the 4th Congressional District nomination got ugly, as candidates fired insults at one another. They did discuss the economy and job growth in Nassau County. We also posted highlights of the RVC village board briefing meeting.
Patch also previewed Molloy College's men's and women's soccer teams, and detailed the work of one SSHS graduate who brought his lacrosse skills overseas to help Italy's national team in an international lacrosse tourney.
