Weekend Heat Means It's Time to Conserve Water: Utility Company

Liberty Water is reminding residents of ways to avoid using too much water when temperatures spike.

LONG ISLAND, NY — With temperatures expected to hit the 90s on Long Island by the weekend, Liberty Water is reminding residents to conserve.

Sprinkler systems and swimming pools will run to capacity to keep people cool, but the utility company cautions that it's important everyone also keeps conservation practices in mind.

'Practicing smart water use this time of year is especially important and can benefit customers and the environment as we head into warmer weather and possibly dryer months," Deborah Franco, president of Liberty Water, said.

As with electricity in the summer months, water usage can struggle to meet demands in the dry heat.

Homeowners are urged to water their lawns based on odd/even days and odd/even house numbers. Additionally, Liberty said all watering should be avoided between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m, as these are "peak evaporation times."

Connecting sprinklers to a smart controller is another way to conserve.

They also suggest pointing the sprinklers directly at the lawn, thus avoiding wasting water on sidewalks and driveways.
