Who's Top Dog In NY? Find Out The Most Popular Breed.

The American Kennel Club released its list of the most popular breeds for 2017? But who's the big dog in New York?

Every dog owner will tell you that their pooch is the best, and who can blame them? But when it comes to cold, hard facts, the American Kennel Club knows which dog is really the favorite.

The organization tracks which dog breeds are the most popular across the country. And for the last 27 years running, the Labrador Retriever has been the favorite across America. According to the American Kennel Club, labs are popular for a ton of reasons. They're friendly, outgoing and eager to please. They're energetic and great at dog sports, make great partners for police officers and are some of the most popular service dogs out there.

“The Labrador Retriever has its paws firmly planted in Americans’ hearts,” said AKC Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo. “It’s such a versatile and family friendly breed.”

The AKC also broke down the most popular breed across all states. Even in New York, the Labrador Retriever was top dog. But in New York City, things were a little different. The most popular breed in the Big Apple is the French Bulldog (followed closely by the lab at No. 2).

The Kennel Club also released a list of the top names for dogs, both male and female, for 2017.
