Wrong-Way Driver Slams Into Car On Southern State Pkwy.: State Police

Giovannie Merisier is charged with DWI and second-degree reckless endangerment, state police said.

BALDWIN, NY — Two people were injured in a wrong-way crash on the Southern State Parkway early Sunday, state police said.

Just before 5 a.m. near exit 32, a red 2016 Nissan was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of traffic, police said.

The Nissan struck a Gray 2020 Toyota in the center lane near Exit 20S (Baldwin Road), state police said.

Both vehicles had a driver and a passenger. The occupants of the Toyota were extricated from the car with non-life-threatening injuries.

The wrong-way driver was identified as Giovannie Merisier, 43, of West Babylon, who is charged with DWI and second-degree reckless endangerment, state police said.
