2 Senior Citizen Home Apartments Burglarized: Rye Police
Both were accessed through rear unlocked windows, and a 4-ft. step ladder was found at the scene. Video showed a man with a mask and gloves.
RYE, NY — A burglar who targeted senior citizens in a string of thefts remains at large, according to authorities.
The City of Rye Police Department says that two apartments were burglarized on Wednesday, at Vienna Senior Housing, on Theodore Fremd Ave. Both apartments were accessed through rear unlocked windows, and a four-foot step ladder was found at the scene.
Police say the time frame for the burglary was between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Wednesday. A nest camera showed an unidentified person at 9:10 p.m. in one of the apartments. The person was wearing gloves and a face mask to hide his identity.

Detectives processed both scenes and the incidents are under investigation.

They also recommend that residents take a few simple measures to keep their homes safe from burglars, such as ensuring the house is secure, locking doors and windows, removing keys from locks, and keeping keys out of reach of windows and doors. In addition to leaving lights on and drawing curtains when going out at night, police also suggest that residents consider installing security cameras and burglar alarms.
