3 Kids In The Car When Greenwich Woman Arrested For DWI On I-95: NYSP

Kids, ages 1, 6, and 11, were in the car in Rye, and the driver had a BAC of .11 percent, according to state troopers.

CITY OF RYE, NY — A Connecticut woman was arrested in Rye for potentially putting the lives of three children at risk, according to state troopers.

New York State Police say that troopers from New Rochelle conducted a traffic stop on Sunday, around 11:13 p.m., on a Toyota Camry traveling north on I-95, in the City of Rye, for traffic violations.

While interviewing the driver, identified as 40-year-old Claudia R. Ruiz, of Greenwich, Connecticut, troopers noticed signs of intoxication. They administered standardized field sobriety tests, which Ruiz subsequently failed.

Troopers found that three children, ages 1, 6, and 11, were also in the car at the time of the stop.

Ruiz was arrested and taken to SP New Rochelle for processing, where she provided a breath sample resulting in a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.11 percent.

Ruiz was charged with three felony counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger (Leandra's Law), misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, and several vehicle/traffic violations.
