Brooklyn Man Arrested For Passing Counterfeit Bills At Rye Businesses

Two Purchase Street businesses reported transactions had taken place in which he paid using $20 counterfeit bills, cops said.

RYE, NY — Fake money passed at Rye shops has landed a Brooklyn man in real trouble, according to police.

The City of Rye Police Department says that on Nov. 22, officers responded to All Paws Gourmet Pet Store and Sammy + Nat, both located on Purchase St.

The two businesses reported transactions had taken place where a person paid using $20 counterfeit bills.

After an investigation, Rye Police Department detectives identified 23-year-old Elijah Gay, of Brooklyn, as the person who used the counterfeit bills at both businesses.

On Wednesday, with the assistance of New York City Probation, Gay was picked up on an arrest warrant out of Rye City Court. He was taken to Rye Police Headquarters for processing. Gay was charged with two counts of felony possession of a forged instrument and two counts of petit larceny.

He was arraigned in Rye City Court and was remanded to the Westchester County Correctional Facility until his next scheduled court date on December 24.
