Prompt Alert To Fire Department Credited With Helping Firefighters Limit Damage To Rye Home

An investigation determined that the cause of the house fire was related to the failure of electrical equipment.

At 5:18 PM on March 12, 2025, the City of Rye Fire Department was dispatched to an automatic fire alarm at 65 Rye Road. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a severed electrical service line in the driveway and immediately requested the assistance of Con Edison. As crews continued to investigate, they observed smoke emanating from the property, followed by active fire visible in the garage area.
A working fire was transmitted, which brought additional Rye Fire Department personnel and mutual-aid resources to the scene and to the Rye Headquarters to assist with managing other emergency calls in the city.

Two hose lines were quickly deployed, and searches were conducted inside the home. During the search, two dogs were safely found and removed to the rear fenced yard. The fire was brought under control swiftly, and crews contained it to the garage, preventing further damage to the property. Firefighters also checked for any fire extension above the area of origin and successfully vented the structure to ensure no hidden flames remained.

The Westchester County Cause and Origin Team was called to the scene to investigate the nature of the fire. Their investigation determined that the cause was related to the failure of electrical equipment within and around the main electrical panel.
